Yesterday evening, I headed out with Cherish to watch 'A Streetcar Named Desire' by Tennesse Williams at the Young Vic. It was starring Gillian Anderson (Scully off X Files, if you need to know). Her performance as Blanche Dubois was stunning, she seemed to fill the entire space with her interpretation of such a sad yet lovable character.
Here's what I looked like:
I didn't manage to get a full pic, but an evening at the theatre calls for a bold lip, non?
The tickets - free! I'm so lucky to be signed up to the Young Vic 16-25 programme, set up with the aim of getting young people into theatre. If you search for your local theatre, I'm sure you'll be able to find discounted tickets if you're under 25.
The play was performed 'in the round' - meaning the stage was in the centre and the audience surrounded it. The stage actually revolved during the play, which the director used to reflect the pace of the dialogue. However, it did make things super difficult to follow sometimes, and I lost a bit of what the characters were saying.
The play runs until the 19th September and I would say go and watch, but apparently the tickets sold out well in advance! There is hope though, the Young Vic runs a raffle from 5pm everyday for extra tickets, so maybe try your luck?
